cook a meal today

cook a meal today

As I have been spending more and more time indoors, an activity that I have been doing a lot in my downtime is cooking. I am not a great cook by any means but I have been finding spending more time in the kitchen quite satisfying.

Along with being the fuel that we need for our body, food can also be an effective medicine to safeguard ourselves against diseases on a day-to-day basis. With a renewed focus on health and nutrition, for the past few months I have been working towards improving my kitchen game. I have realized that when I cook my own meals, not only am I in better control of my diet and what I eat regularly, but also it’s a great way to express my creativity and try new things.

I don’t cook anything extravagant but just focus on cooking simple and healthy meals that don’t take a lot of time. As a direct outcome, I only cook and have the meals that I thoroughly enjoy. In addition, I also feel more empowered and self-reliant and more aware of what I am putting in my mouth.

If you are a novice,  just let go of all your worries about cooking. With all the recipes available online for different diets, budgets and skill levels via so many wonderful websites and YouTube channels, cooking has never been so easy. All you have to do is get the necessary ingredients and schedule a good chunk of time that you can devote towards making a meal or two.

Another upside of cooking is that it helps you minimize your screen time and instead direct your energy and attention towards doing something that is both constructive and creative. And of course, you end up developing an invaluable skill that will serve you for the rest of your life.

Moreover, if you have a family or a few friends around, cooking with them (or for them) is definitely a win-win for everyone as it helps you have fun together, strengthen your bond, and make an active contribution in each other’s lives.

So today, no matter how busy you are, spend some time in the kitchen and cook a meal. It can be as simple as preparing a salad, making a smoothie or even cooking some ramen if you’re an absolute beginner.

I think everyone can benefit from cultivating the skill of cooking a few basic recipes, especially with fresh produce and zero to minimal processed ingredients.
