crickets

Some of us start our side hustles* and small businesses hoping to bring a positive change in the world, live our legend and attain our delayed desires. We put in extra hours and our heart and soul into the work and become our most creative and productive self to get things started. We put in our A-game and put our work in front of the world awaiting a solid, out-of-the-world response — a thundering applause and standing ovations. But all we hear is… crickets.

The miracle that we had been working towards, never happens. All we get is 0 views, 0 likes, 0 hearts, 0 customers, 0 visitors, and 0 orders.

We work some more but the 0 doesn’t’ change. Crickets sometime last for days, sometimes for months. And as we hear them constantly, we actually undergo a test — a test of our resolve, our passion, our confidence in our work and in ourselves.

Crickets can be daunting and bring up doubts and fears inside us, but those are the times when we need to really shine. Those are the times that we need to be grateful for, because they are opportunities for us to test our alignment.

Basically, it’s up to us whether we want to get bothered by them or not in the first place. If we’re passionate and believe in our product or service, we’ll keep working on our craft and learn the nuances of the trade despite of crickets chirping in the background. We’ll have a deep confidence within us that the needle will move. Sooner or later, the 0 will become 1 — our biggest leap — as we begin our journey.

Regardless of how we continue, crickets are blessings in disguise. They help us see our truth and even prepare us for the roller coaster journey of being a hustler or entrepreneur.

The bottomline is crickets are temporary, and they will go away eventually. It’s not about them,  it’s about you, and your aligned actons. If you are tuned in to the frequency of your mission, the crickets will never bother you. They’ll just be a noise in the background that you’ll tune out.

And no matter what you do, if they keep bothering you and obstructing your journey, then maybe it’s time to change your direction and look for something else that resonates better with you, both as a person and as a business owner.
