how to protect your time in the digital age

We’re all living in the digital world and whether we like it or not, there’s always a battle going on for all of us between spending time on our glowing screens or doing something worthwhile and meaningful for ourselves and others.

Technology has brought incredible benefits and blessings along with it, but it’s also a trap. It can be one of the biggest roadblocks when it comes to managing our time and attention.

In her book Everything is Figureoutable, Marie Forleo gives a piece of great advice to break free from the bondage of our laptops, smartphones and other devices, and choose to live consciously and meaningfully.

“Create before you consume,” she writes, “No matter what it is that you’re working to create in your life, whether it’s writing, a new business idea, or a stronger, healthier body, create that outcome for yourself before you open your phone and consume the work of others through Instagram, your newsfeed or your email.”

The best way to guard our precious time in this digital age is to make creating meaningful things a priority for ourselves. The more we create, the more we distance ourselves away from our unconscious and compulsive consumption habits that keep us stuck.
