We give and receive so many compliments in our day to day life, but we hardly spend time figuring out what is an appropriate response that we should give when someone compliments us.
The best way to respond when you are on the receiving end of a compliment is to simply say “Thank you” with a smile. That’s it, simple and easy.
In certain cases, if you want to go a step further, say “Thank you” with a smile and give credit to someone else who got you that particular clothing item or accessory. For instance, if someone says you have a really nice watch, thank them for the compliment and tell them your partner was the one who gifted it to you as a birthday present.
And if you want to go even further, say “Thank you” with a smile, give credit to the other person who got you that item, and when you see that other person next, report to them about the compliment that you received earlier for the item.
There are some terrible ways people respond to compliments. I have been there and the sad part is that we all learn these incorrect ways from each other. Instead, it’s best to choose the simple route of expressing our gratitude. This makes things easier and better for everyone involved. It’s a tiny behavior change, but it ensures that along with you, other people also feel good whenever you receive a compliment.
