In today’s fast-paced, hyperconnected world, it’s easy for the mind to be influenced by fear, anger, anxiety, stress, loneliness, and despair. And these toxic mental states could lead to the manifestation of physical ailments such as skin rashes, allergies, insomnia, hypertension, and indigestion.
Several studies have proven again and again that most illnesses begin with a negative mind. Countless physicians have confirmed that many of the above-mentioned disorders are actually psychosomatic i.e. either caused or aggravated by mental instability.
The human mind is incredibly powerful. Let’s consider the hypochondriacs for example. They belong to a certain subset of the population who have convinced themselves that they are sick even though nothing is wrong with them. As a result, they end up experiencing the exact symptoms of their dreaded illness. The illness doesn’t exist per se, but their mind plays games with them. They harbor the belief that the disease is real and behave as if their bodies are getting ravaged by it.
Another way we constantly make ourselves is through constant worry, fear of failure, and the anxiety caused by anticipating negative life circumstances. I’m sure you would’ve heard the famous adage, “Thoughts are things.” It holds great truth, because the mind constantly strives to turn into reality the things we think about most. It’s crucial that you protect your mental health and provide the same care and nourishment you give to your physical body. Jim Rohn once advised, “Nourish the mind like you would your body. The mind cannot survive on junk food.” Just as your body requires nutrition and a healthy and balanced diet, so does your mind. Make it a priority to feed it plenty of positive thoughts.
